Self-Guided Tutorial for
First Time College Students
For completing the CAP tool on your own prior to registration.
Steps for Completing the CAP Tool
Step 1: Log into the CAP tool. You will use your Butte College email and password. If you don’t know your log-in credentials, contact User Support at 530.895.2925 to have your password reset.
We recommend that you have your college and/or high school transcripts available to you, so you are accurately self-reporting the courses and grades you received. If you don't have access, self-report as accurately as you can so you are recommended courses appropriate to your level of knowledge, chosen pathway and education goals.
Step 2: Select your program of study and academic goal. You can always change your program of study and academic goal at a later time after meeting with a counselor.
Step 3: Self-report college or high school information to complete the guided self-placement questionnaire and click "Submit."
Step 4: SUCCESS! You have completed the CAP tool. Confirm your self-reported information and review your placement profile and recommendations. Upon exiting the CAP tool, check your Butte College email. You will have a "Career and Academic Profile Summary and Placement" confirmation email for the successful completion of your CAP tool. Please retain for your records and future reference.
